What does the Junior Coaching Award Involve? – ‘Course of Learning’
The Junior Coaching Award is the first step on New Zealand Football’s formal accreditation pathway for junior coaches. The Award is broken into two separate age related strands of coach development, presenting coaches with the option of specialising with a specific age group of players. As part of the course of learning coaches will be presented with opportunities to participate in and complete practical workshops. Distance learning, including both on-line learning and self development tasks to be completed in their own coaching environment, covering:
• Exploring Effective Coaching Strategies.
• Understanding Player Centred Learning.
• Understanding Age Appropriate Player Development & Planning, Designing and Delivering Age Appropriate Practices.
The Junior Coaching Award can be achieved at either a Silver or Gold Level. To achieve the Silver Level coaches must attend a four hour workshop and following the completion of this they are presented with the option of progressing to the Gold Level. The Gold Level can be achieved by completing all of the prescribed distance learning tasks and attendance at a two hour ‘Gold Level Summary Workshop’.
Who is the Course Aimed at?
Coaches aiming to increase their effectiveness in meeting the needs of their players through effective coaching. The two courses of learning, offered here, are tailored to meet the needs of coaches working with children at either the Primary Stage of Football Development (children 6-8 years) or those coaching at the Intermediate Stage of Football Development (children 9-12 years).
