Clive Herbert Trophy 2007

The national age-group trials held over the weekend of September 15/16 at Keith Hay Park completed the 2007 Clive Herbert Trophy with the East Zone prevailing.

Entering the weekend's trials for under-13, 14 and 15 boys as well as under 13, 14 and 16 girls, the East Zone had the lead thanks to their win in the under 12 section of the trials held in June.

The East Zone then extended their lead after the girls section of the trials on Saturday 15th, before the South Zone made a late run on Sunday 16th as they took out the under- 13 and 14 boys sections.

However, with five wins or first-equal results from the eight age groups, the East Zone are the 2007 winners on 22.75 points, ahead of the South and West Zones in joint second spot on 19.25 points. The Central Zone were fourth on 18.75 points.

From the trials, Centre of Excellence squads will be picked in each age bracket to prepare for the national age-group tournament held in Napier in December, where Auckland Football's best players in each age group will face the cream of the crop from the other six federations.

Also running as part of the trials was the referees’ academy with the whistleblowers receiving coaching and assessments over the course of the two days.
